" On November 10th, 2010 Summerside Community Church sponsored 20 people to go on a Mission trip to Mozambique, Africa. I was very happy to be chosen to go on this trip. It was an experience of a life time.   We left Charlottetown airport at 5:30pm and arrived at Montreal airport at 6:30pm. We had a five hour wait in Montreal which turned into an 8 hour wait because of mechanical problems with the air plane..." (more....).

Filipino Human Rights Tour comes to PEI

"Defend Human Rights In The Philippines: A Worker-to-Worker Solidarity Exchange" took place across Canada with Antonio Tinio from the Alliance of Concerned Teachers -- Philippines (ACT) and Ferdinand Gaite from COURAGE , public service unions. They came to Prince Edward Island on a tour in May which was coordinated by CUPE PEI GLobal Justice Committee Members Leo Cheverie and Maciej Zawadzki with support from CUPE PEI Division. While on P.E.I. they met with Members of Parliament Shawn Murphy and Wayne Easter as well as members of the P.E.I. Federation of Labour, PEI Teacher's Federation President Phyllis Horne and Staff, attended a reception with the local Filipino community and spoke at a public forum held at UPEI where they spoke about human rights issues as well as concerns about trade agreements and the impact on workers and others in the Phillipines. Many trade unionists have been murdered in the Phillipines in recent years and there have been many other human rights violations. Brother Serge Landry from New Brunswick plans to take part in a return human rights tour in January 2010 with support from others in this region. He will come to PEI and talk about his experiences.
