NATIONAL & PROVINCIAL HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE REPORT PEI Convention – May 19 & 20, 2011 

Free Occupational Health and Safety Workshops - Spring 2011 Schedule (Dates are subject to change)

Mandate:
The CUPE PEI Health and Safety Committee have a mandate to promote health and safety by ad vocating for the prevention of hazards within the work place

Terms of Reference:
The Committee will work in accordance with the PEI Division Constitution.

Committee Objectives:

  • To ensure accessibility and inclusions on occupational health and safety matters.
  • To recommend health and safety activities, tools and campaigns to CUPE PEI Division.
  • To recommend and promote health and safety training to members of CUPE PEI and suggest training programs to the CUPE PEI’s Provincial Union Development Committee.
  • To participate and coordinate health and safety campaigns within the Province.
  • To promote and raise awareness of the Day of Mourning, April 28th.
  • To assist with the development and promotion of health and safety committees within collective agreements of CUPE Locals in PEI.

Specific roles and Obligations:
The CUPE PEI Health and Safety Committee shall:

  • Promote health and safety issues at CUPE PEI’s annual conventions by submitting an annual report, submitting related resolutions, providing materials and handouts on information tables, etc.
  • Meet a minimum of two times per year and report back to Division after each meeting.
  • Support local, provincial and national health and safety campaigns.
  • Encourage locals to send members to Health and Safety workshops.
  • Act as a resource to Union Locals and partner organizations.
