We had a meeting in Ottawa, ON- November 25th - 27th , 2009 at the Marriott Hotel. On the 25th we started of with our Regional Reports from across Canada. I have attach a copy of the PEI Report given at our meeting in November. We then continue on with business on National Report from convention. Also had discussions on Child care tour, Long term care tour and update from Union Development on Privatization Education.
On the 26th the biggest part of our day was Strategic Directions Programs for 2009- 2011.We also had discussions on SPP is dead, so where's the champagne? On morning of the 27th we continued our business and gave our input for report to NEB.
Myself and Leo Cheverie attended the Blue Summit from the 27 th-to the 29thin Ottawa which follow after our National meetings. CUPE National and The Council of Canadians put on a great summit. There were great speakers and very good workshops through the summit. It was a great way to connect with municipal workers from across Canada on all water , wastewater and water treatment issues.
On December 14, 2009 we had our first CUPE PEI Standing committee for privatization and contracting -out. Committee members are: Division Liaison Blaine Parkman, Health Sector Wanda Livingstone local 1051, Education Sector (E) Rob Coughlin local 1145, Education Sector (W) Roy Villard local 1775, University Sector Dorothy Peters local 1870. We have no one from EMS/ Nursing homes and group homes.
Each member gave a report from there sectors. In health there was discussion on Corpus Sanchez report. Education was around contracting-out on school buses /rental vans. Municipal it was contracting-out as well. Things for 2009 were some what low key on P3's for PEI. We must never leave our guard down to P3's. Next Provincial committee meeting will be in April after National All Committees meeting in Montreal.
